Toeing the water

I finally took the plunge and contributed my mostly-tested pattern to Ravelry and then foolishly misnamed my 'store'. Arrrgh! How embarassing. Edit: Oh thank goodness, the Ravelry powers-that-be fixed it for me already. Whew.

I'm really looking forward to posting Flowertot. Got some really terrific feedback from testers.

I wrote up the pattern for Flowertot (LGT Rav) and with a few tweaks, was really proud of it. And it looks like a coherent pattern! To make it a really useful pattern though, I have to grade (size) it to be knittable for bigger babies. I kind of fluked through it the first time, so I hit a "math snag" while working on the grading. I can't think how to write out the section clearly - I settled for letting the knitter know how many stitches to increase over how many total stitches, and I hope that's good enough.

All this grading/math has left me feeling pretty inadequate about my math/pattern writing skills. I can only imagine someone a little more limber with numbers looking at it and figuring it out right away. Like knitting, I hope that pattern writing (and associated math) gets easier with practice.

get the lead out

Wow, I abandoned this blog almost as quickly as I created it. I'm considering letting my other, regular blog lapse as I haven't even posted in 2010 and shouldn't be paying to host some old ramblings. I usually post all knitting-related drivel right onto my Ravelry project notes, but I'm starting to design more stuff and gave more thought to using this page. So I'm dusting it off.

She'll then mail me her socks in progress which I won't get until I'm back from Montreal, during which time I expect to get my own socks o' death in the mail.

I slogged through this pattern. I kept myself going only because I know (pretty much) I'll never have to knit it again. It's pretty satisfying to see the finished pair.

I used to play Super Mario Bros. until my thumbs ached or I rescued the princess or both. I imagine Kevin did too.. unless he just likes goofy faces on his hats.

Setting up

I'm being a very bad employee right now, since I am writing this post instead of doing what I'm paid to do. I thought of a title for this blog on the bus this morning and had to set it up before I forgot. I had wanted 'As If To Knit' but that already occurred to someone else, so I settled for Purl.

Anyway, back to work. I'm looking foward to having somewhere to put all my knitty thoughts and projects - aside from Ravelry and my own regular blog.
